How to Pick the Right Dumpster Size

The right dumpster size comes down to two things: how much debris you’re generating, and how bulky or heavy it is. A small bathroom remodel or roof tear-off usually fits in a 10- or 15-yard container. A whole-home renovation or major cleanout typically needs a 20-yard container, which is our most popular size for exactly that reason. Larger construction and demolition jobs – framing debris, old flooring, cabinetry, concrete removal – call for a 30- or 40-yard container to avoid running out of room mid-project.

If you’re not sure, it’s almost always better to size up slightly than to run short and need a second container. And if you’re still unsure after reading through the comparison below, a quick call to our Elizabethton, TN office will get you a straight answer based on your actual project.

Still Not Sure? Call Us

Picking a dumpster size from a chart is easier when you already know your project inside and out – but most people don’t, and that’s fine. If you describe your project when you call, we can recommend a size based on years of doing exactly this across the Tri-Cities region. We’d rather help you get the right container the first time than have you pay for a second haul because a container filled up early.

You can also browse our full services page if your project involves more than just debris removal – many customers pair a dumpster rental with demolition, excavation, or land clearing work.

Dumpster Size Questions

Five: 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40-yard roll-off containers. A 10 or 15-yard is $195, a 20-yard is $295, a 30-yard is $395 and a 40-yard is $495, each a flat seven-day rate plus the $225 haul fee.

The 10-yard measures 12ft x 8ft x 3.5ft and holds about 3-4 pickup loads. At $195 flat for seven days it suits small bathroom or kitchen remodels, roofing tear-offs and concrete.

The 15-yard measures 16ft x 7.5ft x 4.5ft and holds about 4-6 pickup loads. At $195 flat for seven days it suits garage and basement clean-outs, decking and small additions.

The 20-yard measures 22ft x 8ft x 4ft and holds about 6-8 pickup loads. At $295 flat for seven days it suits full home renovations and large clean-outs – our most requested size.

The 30-yard measures 22ft x 8ft x 6ft and holds about 9-12 pickup loads. At $395 flat for seven days it suits construction and demolition debris and whole-floor gut jobs.

The 40-yard measures 22ft x 8ft x 8ft and holds about 12-16 pickup loads. At $495 flat for seven days it suits major construction projects and whole-property clear-outs.

The 20-yard at $295. It is the size most home renovations and large clean-outs need, holding roughly 6-8 pickup loads.

You would need a second haul, which costs more than the difference between two sizes. If you are between sizes, take the larger one – or call us and describe the job and we will tell you which we would send.

A 10 or 15-yard is $195, a 20-yard is $295, a 30-yard is $395 and a 40-yard is $495. Each is a flat rate for a full seven-day rental, plus a $225 haul fee that covers delivery and pickup. There is no separate dump fee on top. A standard weight allowance is included in the flat rate and we confirm it with you when you book.

Most containers are on site within one to two business days. Call (423) 431-9267 with your dates and we will tell you honestly what we can make work. We deliver Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

The haul fee covers both the delivery of the container to your site in the Tri-Cities and the pickup once you are finished. It applies to every rental and is quoted up front, so the price you are told is the price you pay.

A standard weight allowance is included in the flat rate. Heavy material like concrete, brick, dirt and shingles adds up far faster than household junk, so tell us what you are loading when you book and we will confirm the allowance and the right size for the job.

Seven days, included in the flat rate. That is a full week from delivery, not a part-day or 48-hour window.

Call us before the seven days are up and we will work it out. It is far easier to arrange an extension in advance than to sort it out after the pickup is scheduled.

Electronics and TVs, tires, paint, batteries, chemicals and hazardous waste, refrigerators and air conditioners containing refrigerant, propane tanks, medical or biohazard waste, and asbestos. These need to go to a dedicated recycling centre or hazardous waste facility. Everything else – household junk, furniture, construction debris and yard waste – is fine.

Yes, but heavy material is usually best in a 10 or 15-yard container rather than a large one, because weight becomes the limit long before space does. Tell us it is a heavy load when you book so we send the right container.

No. The load has to sit level with the top of the container so it can be legally and safely tarped and hauled. If material is stacked above the rail we may not be able to take it that day, so keep it level as you load.

Allow roughly 60 feet of straight clearance in front of the drop spot and around 12 feet of width, plus clear overhead room – the truck lifts the container high to set it down. Low branches and power lines are the usual obstacles.

Roll-off containers are heavy and are set down on wheels and rails. If you are concerned about a finished or newly sealed driveway, tell the driver and lay plywood on the drop spot – it spreads the load and is the simplest protection.

Please do not. Once it is set it should stay where the driver placed it. Moving a loaded container risks injury and property damage, and it may not be positioned for the truck to collect it. If the spot is wrong, call us and we will sort it.

Yes. We work with homeowners doing a one-off clean-out and with contractors running ongoing jobs in the Tri-Cities. If you need containers swapped as a build progresses, call and we will schedule around your programme.

Yes. We also run excavation, grading, land clearing and demolition, and we deliver fill dirt, shale and driveway gravel. It is the same crew and our own trucks, so one call covers the container and the dirt work.

We deliver and collect Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, and we are closed at the weekend. Call (423) 431-9267 during those hours and you will speak to someone who can give you a straight answer.
